The Next "Best" Thing

Making money and finding success comes with being ahead of the curve and anticipating the next “best” thing. What does this look like for reality television though? Our conversation in class today made me think that I could create a reality television show about any unique subculture as long as the unique components could be adequately blown out of proportion. I think I could make a show out of the subculture of livestock shows. Aside from my idea I sought what other ideas people are brewing. The potential I found is clever and shocking.

Have you ever been somewhere and observed a moth daughter duo in which it is difficult to determine the roles. You might know a mother who goes out an parties with her mom or a daughter who has crazy stories about how her and her mom got sloppy drunk over the weekend. If you don’t know people like this you may soon have an opportunity to parasocially experience their lifestyles. The creators of Jersey Shore, Tool Academy, and A Shot At Love are eager to provide an intimate look at these mother-daughter relationship. The article on Jezebel sets the scene: “You can already picture what this is going to look like. A little Real Housewives , a little Jersey Shore, a litte Rock Of Love. Women in skimpy clothes, making questionable decisions.” What does this say about parenting in our society? Will you watch the show? What would compel you to watch it?
