Survivor

Survivor is one of my favorite reality television shows, and may even be considered a game show. The prize is one million dollars at the end of each season and is most definitely fought hard for. This show came into my mind as we were discussing reality trash t.v. today in class. I would not consider this show to be trash, but does have a very strong reality element incorporated into it.

This show picks regular people who apply, and probably tries to pick people who will clash, get along, and be competitive with one another. It features each person telling a little about themselves, their job in the real world, and what motivates them, which gives the viewer a little insight into the type of personality they have. There is a lot of drama on this show, and therefore, the viewer gets to see each type of character depicted. As we discussed in class, there are different types of characters that are stereotypical and typically found in most reality television shows. This show is no exception, and I want to discuss the types of characters usually found on Survivor.

This season is set on "Redemption Island" in Nicaragua and consists of all types of personalities. There is a man who is chauvinistic and very full of himself and therefore is not all that popular in his tribe. There is always a person who plays the game like a champ, and this season it was Russell who came back from past seasons to play again. I have a video clip that shows Russell's personality and type of character he is.

"Boston" Rob (also invited back to participate once more), is seen as the leader this season simply because he has done this before. There is also the attractive female that rides the coat tails of another smarter game player. The friendly/peacemaker is a character rarely seen on Survivor. As you can tell, there are various characters that are depicted on Survivor, I have only listed a couple. There is a certain pull to watch this show because not only do I love it, but i am curious to see who they find next!
