Flav's Women Are Women In "REALITY"
I was thinking about our discussion we had in class Thursday about women roles in reality television. I personally believe that women in reality television take on more male personas in their episodes. Using Jersey Shore as an example, notice how even the women bring different men home on different nights. Now, they probably do not sleep with them the guys they bring home but I do have a more male approach when it comes to meeting men. We also discussed the different personalities women have in reality television. There is a show that displays every personality we named (the drunk, the mean bitch, the super sensitive chick, the girl who was in a long term relationship before or during the show etc.) in class Thursday. I was on NetFlix (which I highly recommend you guys get) and I decided to watch a couple of episodes of the classic reality television show, “Flavor Of Love” the first season. If you are not familiar with the show, there are 20 women who are in competition to when the heart of the legendary hype man Flavor Flav from the rap group Public Enemy. Any who, you can imagine the numbers of personalities that came on the show whether they were real or not. There was this one chick that really had Flav’s interest. She was eliminated because Flav found out that she was calling her ex-boyfriend from his house, which she had just broken up with one week before she came on the show. There was also this chick named New York (who later end up having a show of her own), and her role was to play the mean bitch to the ladies but the perfect angel in front of Flav. This chick is crazy, she would argue with any and almost every girl in the house. She would do whatever was necessary to ensure that she was not going to get eliminated from the show. These women are everything we discussed in classed. I believe reality television is not reality, its only entertainment and we as viewers have bought have built a thirst for this entertainment.
